MONTERAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
CLOSED
|
(Upper Mission Creek)
|
|
Monteray Elementary School was permanently closed in 2006.
Monteray's location in the upper watershed provided a close-up view of wildlife. Deer browsed their way through the school yard and in the spring of 2000, a raccoon gave birth to three babies in the storage compound.

RECYCLING
The school recycled and kept a compost bin.

BUTTERFLY GARDEN
Each year since 1998, students raised Painted Lady butterflies in the classroom, then released them into the Butterfly Garden where they lingered before moving on.
