In 2002, there was a lengthy drought and water levels remained very low through October and early November.
Salmon spawners were seen in Lynn Creek, the Seymour River and Capilano River, but not in the smaller streams.
Rain began on November 5 and continued without much of a break until November 12 to 13.

The first survey of 2002 was done on November 13. Water levels were too high to do the survey up to that point.
We were pleased to find that areas where we removed blockages last year, were still clear and fish passable. Those spots tended to block up year after year, so we tried to do a really thorough job of clearing them out. It seemed to have worked. |
|
Heavy rain and high water after November 13, prevented further spawner surveys until after November 20.
On November 23, we surveyed the whole survey area. It was obvious that water levels had been very high, because woody debris was left stranded much higher than usual.
We cleared debris jams at four places in the stream, removing shopping carts from three. None of the jams blocked fish passage at this time, but likely would if left in place.

Water levels remained high for the rest of the spawning season, so we did not survey again.
